What do insurance brokers do?

Charissa Riley: 1. An insurance broker sells policies from different companies which they can compare from and usually receive a commission for each policy sold and charge a broker fee to the client.2. As a broker your main goal is to sell policies offered by insurance provider that you are appointed with3. Laws vary depending on which field of insurance that is being sold.4. A typical day would be to follow up on any leads and try to accomodate the potential client and close a deal. It may also include some customer service.5. Depending on the type of license you want, you would need to attend a class for a certain number of hours and then pass the state exam.6. I became an auto insurance broker because I figured that there will always be need for cars to be insured so basically for job security.7.My salary is based on my commission therefore the I enjoy challenging myself to be more productive.8.The most challenging part is closing the deal.9.I have been in the industry! for 10 years10. I would advise anyone to go ahead and obtain their insurance license. It could open a lot of doors. As I said before, laws make it that drivers must have some sort of auto insurance therefore it is an industry that will not go away any time soon. There is also a lot of job openings for licensed agents.I only specialize in auto insurance. Agustina Stimmel: An insurance broker is a sales agent who instead of being captive to one company, is independent and can sell many companies. You would have to study and pass your state exam to acquire a license then get hired at an agency. I would say, if you like a challenge every day then this is a good job for you. It is not easy, if it was everyone would be lined up to do it. But if you are diligent, work hard, and are good with people- then go for it!...Show more
