Stephnie Patout: supposedly autozone will check what the code is for free. most likely I would guess its a dirty MAS or, or some other sensor. loose gas cap could also be it.Its unlikely from the oil changes, if its a normal check engine light, it won't go off if you have dirty oil. Also it very unlikely that they are not changing the oil filter, if they aren't you are getting ripped off. Most likely, there is a channel running under the garage and someone is down there opening the drain bolt and changing the filter.you can turn it off manually by disconnecting the battery. If it doesn't come back on in the next few weeks its probably nothing important....Show more
Angelyn Ducas: Take it to the dealer. They will hook it up to a computer that knows exactly what's wrong with it. Apart from letting that computer talk to your car, it would be hard to guess what's wrong.
Inez Relihan: no it could be a glitch or something where the gas tank wasnt tightenen. Unf! ortunley my bf had a civic as well. You have to go to a mechanic to have it turned off.
Rocio Karvis: Don't go to the dealer unless you really think there's a problem. "Maintenance" lights aren't gonna throw any mechanic any codes. The only light that will give you a code is the check engine light. Look in the manual for your civic and it tells you how to turn it off. For your year civic there should be a little knob on the cluster gauge that looks like the odometer trip. you hold that down then turn the key to auxiliary and coninue to hold it till the light goes off.
Bryant Chaudhry: go t your honda dealer, they will run the ecu to see what error code your getting, and they will direct you what to do. Maintenance light isn't a glitch, its the car's way of telling you, your car has a problem.Edit:Reply to Dynasty- when the light is on, its telling your car is something is wrong. And turning off the light, won't do anything, because after 300 miles, it will come ! back up again. If you want to turn it off, then here is what y! ou do:Make sure the speedometer is showing the ODOMETER ... NOT the TRIP METER. Next ... you want to have the key in the ignition ... but NOT on. You are going to use the button that you use to switch from the odometer to the trip meter. You want to hold that button in. Next ... turn the key to the on position (do NOT start the vehicle ... just go until all the lights come on). You should see the MAINTENENCE LIGHT come on and it may flash off and then back on. Some of the lights will then stay on steady ... some will flash (not sure what yours will do). Continue holding the button in until the light goes out. While still holding the button ... turn the ignition switch off. Now turn it back on and you should see the light come on and then it will go off (if you did this right)....Show more
