Bibi Tyron: If you really want to do it right, remove the hardware and take it to a professional to be plated. I once had a customer that had brass plumbing fixtures that were worn. She wanted to replace them, but I would have had to replace all the plumbing. This would have been very expensive. Instead, I removed all the pieces and had them re-plated for about $120. There were a lot of parts. Obviously gold plating would be more expensive than brass, but you probably have far less surface to plate to begin with.
